My first post is about Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. It was released in 2001 directed by Chris Columbus, the writers were J.K. Rowling and Steve Kloves. Some of the major actors were Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Richard Harris, Alan Rickman, Maggie Smith and Emma Watson. The story for this movie is of a young boy who discovers he is a wizard and he discovers a plan to steal an alchemy artifact that is being stored at his school. He assumes it is a professor he does not like but discovers that it is the least suspicious professor who is guilty. The plot of the movie sets this suspicion up as throughout the movie the innocent professor looks like he has something to hide and a grudge against the young boy. The first clip I have included in my blog depicts the two professors in a conversation while Harry is waiting to be sorted into a house at his school.
The film flows chronologically. This allows foreshadowing to take place because it sets the scene of the innocent professor looking guilty in his actions leading up to the end of the school year when you learn it is the other professor who is guilty. I am not sure the audience would understand what is going on if the director had chosen a non-linear approach. The second clip is from the end of the school year when Harry Potter realizes he was wrong and misjudged the innocent professor.
